Have you ever wanted to backup protected DVD's or CD's (for personal use only)? Are you tired of CD/DVD writer programs telling you that a CD or DVD is copyrighted and therefore copying is not allowed?

Are tired of family members borrowing your original CD's or DVD's and returning them damaged or scratched, or maybe not returning them at all? Well, I have some good news for you! There are some free utilities you can use to get around the copy protection and make backup copies of your original movies or music.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS : (must accept before continuing)
The information in this article is only meant for mature audiences, so only continue reading if you agree to use these utilities responsibly and not for piracy purposes. If for any reason, you decide to use the suggested utilities for unlawful purposes, BayReviews.com, will not be held responsible for any legal actions taken against you. Please continue reading if you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, I strongly suggest against reading any further. If you continue reading, it will be assumed that you agree with these terms and conditions.

RECOMMENDED UTILITIES :
1. CloneDVD with AnyDVD ($39 USD / Trial Available)
2. CloneCD ($39 USD / Trial Available)
3. DVD Shrink (Free) with Nero ($80 to $100 USD / Trial Available)

I am only going to recommend these three utilities in the order listed because I have been using these for some years now and they have not failed me yet. I still use them for all my personal backup needs. Please keep reading to get more information on the above listed utilities.

BENEFITS OF MAKING BACKUP COPIES OF YOUR ORIGINALS :
First of all, when you make a backup copy of an original CD or DVD media, you will prevent the original copy from getting damaged or lost. In the event that damages occur or you loose the backup copy, you will still have the original that you can use to make another backup copy for daily use. You can also let your family borrow the backup copy from you and do not worry about it getting damaged or lost. I know you have family members that borrow from you and never return; I think everyone has a family member who does that. Well, here is a great idea for you: make backup copies of your originals.

  • macresarf1  - Interesting!
But I'm not sure the processes are worth the risks involved.

Excellent overview of the subject, however.

Well, I am just providing the information, it is definitely up to you to decide if you want to go in that direction or not. I would always encourage you to not go the wrong way. So all the power to you on whatever you decide. Hey thank you for stopping by to read, rate and comment. I really appreciate it.

Thanks for the entry in the software category write-on; could you maybe link to the writer's corner piece to raise the awareness?

As to the subject, I was in the process of writing a comment alerting you to DVD Decrypter, a free decrypting program that with DVD Shrink can do the backups completely free (a free Nero Express was needed, too) Unfortunately, I just found out that DVD Decrypter was bought out in November and is no longer available! I still have my version and will keep it as long as I can, but now I know of a few other programs should my version become unusable, so thanks!

First of all, let me thank you (Ivplay) for giving me the subject to write about. If it wasn't for your email, I would not have written this. And as for the information I provided in this article, I am just glad it is helping people make their backup processes easier and quicker.

I also hope the Software category gets better really soon so it starts showing updated stats again. Once again, thank you.
  • James Quon  - Excellent work!
I would consider this as a good primer for CD/DVD copying. You bring a lot of things up that I would not have thought of.
  • Vikram Chand  - Re: Excellent work!
Thank you for reading, rating, and taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it a lot. All I can say to your comment is that I only put what I knew from personal experience in this article. Someone requested that I put in my 2 cents for the Software category, so here it is. Once again, thank you.
